About Gemma
Gemma is a national and internationally renowned clinician scientist in the fields of body image, eating disorders and mental health. She brings a strong multidisciplinary approach to her research having been awarded a Master of Science from University of Cambridge (as a Monash Scholar) and PhD (Clinical Psychology) from Flinders University. She has been in receipt of consecutive prestigious Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Fellowships since 2018. She leads the Body Image & Eating Disorders Research Program at The University of Queensland where her research focuses on understanding the causes of and developing novel treatments for mental health issues, particularly eating disorders, using biological, psychological, and technological approaches. Gemma also established and directs the world’s first international Consortium for Research in Eating Disorders (CoRe-ED). The consortium has brought together researchers, clinicians, people with lived experience, advocates, not-for-profit and industry representatives from five continents to push for breakthroughs in eating disorder research and care.
