About Jonty
Jonty Coy is an Australian flautist specialising in historical performance practice. He holds a master’s degree in Early Music from the Royal Conservatory in the Hague and a Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) from the UWA Conservatorium of Music in Perth, Western Australia. While studying he received numerous scholarships and awards including the David Tunley Music Scholarship, the Lady Callaway Medal for Music and the St. George’s College Clough Scholarship. He has appeared as a soloist, orchestral musician and chamber musician with numerous ensembles including Apollo Ensemble, Luthers Bach Ensemble, Dordrechts Kamerorkest, Perth Symphony Orchestra, Fremantle Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Australia, and both the Australian and West Australian Youth Orchestras. In 2020, he co-founded the Perth-based baroque ensemble HIP Company. In addition to his flute engagements, Jonty regularly performs as a bass-baritone in choral settings. He has performed with multiple professional choirs in both Australia and the Netherlands, including Amsterdam Baroque Choir, Cappella Pratensis, Ensemble Cacophony, Hemony Ensemble, St. George’s Cathedral Consort, and the Giovanni Consort. Jonty is currently a PhD candidate at Leiden University through the DocARTES doctoral program. His research is dedicated to the study of the Warder flute, its repertoire, and its technical and expressive capabilities.
