About Kath

Katherine is a registered patent attorney in both Australia and New Zealand, and Special Counsel at FB Rice, a leading intellectual property firm. Prior to this role, she spent three years as Head of Patents at Xero, a prominent cloud accounting technology company. Katherine is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trademark Attorneys of Australia and actively contributes to several professional committees, including the leadership committee for the ChIPs ANZ chapter—an organization dedicated to advancing women in technology, law, and policy.

Katherine holds a DPhil in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford (Brasenose College), a MBA with distinction from the University of Cambridge (Judge Business School, St John’s College), and a Master of Intellectual Property from the University of Technology, Sydney. She graduated as the top-ranked student in her undergraduate degrees in Engineering and IT at Griffith University in Queensland. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Law at the University of Queensland and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Quantum Biotechnology, as a CSIRO Next Gen Scholar. Her research focuses on inclusion in innovation and patent inventorship.
