About Luke
Luke holds a Bachelor of Medical Science from the University of Sydney and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Notre Dame, Sydney. He began his medical career at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne where he became increasingly interested in immunology, organ donation and transplantation. With his General Sir John Monash Scholarship, Luke set out to build on his skills in research and clinical foundation in these areas in England’s North East at Newcastle University. His main Masters focus was through his work as a member of the ‘Immunopathology’ theme research group of the UK Coronavirus Immunology Consortium who are using state-of-the-art tissue analysis techniques for deep immunophenotyping of post-mortem COVID-19 tissue. He also gained some exposure to ex vivo lung perfusion, a platform for donor lung assessment and treatment prior to transplantation. Whilst in the UK he also worked clinically with the Newcastle upon Tyne Foundation NHS Trust in kidney transplantation, as well as with the start up company Albus Health in Oxford with a focus on developing novel nocturnal respiratory monitoring technology. He also led a collaboration between the UK and Australian organ donation networks attempting to improve international inconsistencies in organ donation auditing. Now back in Australia, Luke will undertake physicians training and pursue a clinical and academic career in thoracic medicine and clinical immunology and looks forward to commencing a PhD.
