About William
William Leben is a Sydney-based analyst and writer. He currently works as the Principal Analyst and Writer for Eolas Solutions, and he retains affiliations with the National Security College and Development Intelligence Lab. Will has broad professional and research interests, including in Australian foreign and defence policy, climate change, energy and geopolitics, and political violence. He is widely published on topics ranging from escalation risks in the Indo-Pacific, to climate change impacts, to Australia’s colonial history in Papua and New Guinea. Will previously served as an Australian Army officer, including deployment on operations to Iraq. He has worked as an analyst at the ANU’s National Security College, in ASPI’s Climate and Security Policy Centre, and at the Development Intelligence Lab. He is a 2019 General Sir John Monash Foundation Scholar, studying an MPhil in Development Studies at Oxford, completed with distinction. He is a Royal Military College – Duntroon graduate, where he won the Sword of Honour, and also holds a BA (First Class Honours) from UNSW. He is currently working on a book project on Australia’s place in the region and is also an aspiring author of fiction.
