John Monash Scholarship applications now open
The General Sir John Monash Foundation has opened applications for its prestigious John Monash Scholarship Program, which aims to find and empower Australia’s next generation of global leaders.
Applications are open for two months, with successful candidates set to receive one of Australia’s most generous postgraduate awards — $100,000 a year for up to three years of study at any of the world’s best institutions.
The Chief Executive Officer of the General Sir John Monash Foundation, Mr Paul Ramadge, said:
“The John Monash Scholarship is for Australians ready to take on the world and gain the skills, knowledge and networks that will advance our nation.
“Designed and continuously supported by Australians across every sector — government, business, academia and civil society — it’s one of the few scholarships that offers complete freedom to study any field, at any university, anywhere in the world.
“Whether your passion lies in science, the arts, technology or social impact, what matters most is your commitment to building a more resilient, prosperous and socially cohesive Australia.”
This year, the Foundation has increased the annual stipend to $100,000 to reflect the rising cost of living and ensure recipients can fully embrace their international study experience. The updated scholarship values are:
- One-year Master’s – $100,000
- Two-year Master’s – $200,000
- Three-year PhD or DPhil – $300,000
Applicants from across the nation will vie for two new named John Monash Scholarships this year – the Jane Hansen and Paul Little John Monash Scholarship and the Sir James McCusker John Monash Scholarship, both of which have been established from the generosity of two families which champion philanthropy – Jane Hansen AO And Paul Little AO in Victoria and Tonya and Malcolm McCusker in Western Australia.
Since the scholarship program was launched in 2004, 282 John Monash Scholars have been selected from fields as diverse as medicine and wellbeing, law, engineering, robotics, artificial intelligence, technology, art, filmmaking, music, mathematics, physics, teaching and architecture.
Scholars also receive access to the Foundation’s Leadership Academy, a lifelong network providing mentoring, leadership development and career support.
“It’s not just a scholarship — it’s a launchpad for a life of impact,” Mr Ramadge said. “Our scholars go on to shape global communities through service, innovation and excellence — the very qualities that defined General Sir John Monash himself.”
Applications close at 5pm AEST on 30 June 2025.
