Foundation Purpose
The General Sir John Monash Foundation was established in 2001 with a bold mission to encourage academic excellence of our nation’s brightest individuals, foster the growth of their leadership qualities and harness their talents to build Australia’s capabilities for the future. To date, we have awarded 248 Scholarships to citizens who have gone on to study in the fields of health and medicine, engineering, science, fine arts, education, law, political theory, business, entrepreneurship and much more.
The John Monash Scholarship for postgraduate study overseas is awarded in the spirit of General Sir John Monash, a remarkable Australian who believed that education is not given for individual benefit, but for the higher duties of citizens who seek to advance society.
To ensure the professional success of all John Monash Scholars into the future, we launched the John Monash Foundation Leadership Academy in 2021. The Academy works to provide ongoing support, mentorship and professional development for John Monash Scholars who have completed their studies, so we can maximise the impact of these formidable individuals.
We believe, as Sir John Monash said –
“Making the nation great requires leadership based upon sound education and application”.
