James holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and the University Medal in Law from Monash University. As a John Monash Scholar, James completed his LL.M. at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, specialising in International Law and Public Interest & Social Justice. James is presently Associate to Justice Jayne Jagot of the High Court of Australia. He previously worked as a litigator in Sydney and New York, where he acted for plaintiffs against corporate and government defendants, including as part of the legal team for Ukraine in its successful inter-state proceeding before the European Court of Human Rights seeking compensation for the human rights violations perpetrated by Russia against Ukraine's peoples in the course of its invasion and war on Ukraine.
