James holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and the University Medal from Monash University, and was awarded the Supreme Court Prize. As a John Monash Scholar, James completed his LL.M. at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where he received a dual specialisation in International Law and Public Interest & Social Justice. James has a passionate commitment to human rights, community development and law reform for the most vulnerable and least visible members of the Australian community. He has worked and volunteered as a solicitor, a crisis intervention and community support worker, and caseworker in family violence and community law. James has significant youth leadership experience as Convenor and Chairperson of the LGBTIQ youth organisation, Minus18 and as Co-Chair of the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria.
