Liven up your weekend with a play reading on Zoom
Yirraway (Mirage) is a play written by proud Wiradjuri woman and 2021 Gandel Philanthropy John Monash Scholar Bronte Gosper. It is a play that asks: what can our illusions do to us? Told through the eyes of a young Wiradjuri woman Dora, the play explores a series of questions and will also function as a feedback session, with the hope the play can be performed in person next year. Join Bronte at 7 PM this Saturday via Zoom for a premiere read of this Australian play.
Fergus Green, 2012 John Monash Scholar has commenced work as a Lecturer in Political Theory and Public Policy at University College London. Read his article: “Counting carbon or counting coal? Anchoring climate governance in fossil fuel-based accountability frameworks”, recently published by The London School of Economics and Political Science. Fergus has also featured in an episode of ePODstemology which shares his thoughts on how to tackle climate change and avoid social misery.
The Eerie Street podcast
Eerie Street is a podcast of maybe-true horror stories written and recorded by a group of 6 young Australian writers. Dr Katherine Roberts Parker, 2014 Australian Cultural John Monash Scholar is CEO of Matriark Theatre and worked on the sound design for this spooky project. Create NSW funded this with the Matriark Theatre as part of an initiative to keep artists working through the COVID-19 pandemic.
World first for climate lawsuit
The Environmental Defenders Office, on behalf of its client the Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility, has commenced proceedings against Santos Ltd in the Federal Court of Australia. Zoe Bush, 2019 Zelman Cowen John Monash Scholar is the solicitor with carriage of the case and she has recently been interviewed by The Sydney Morning Herald. This is the world’s first court case to challenge the accuracy of corporate net zero emissions targets.

Protecting the elderly from COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the extreme vulnerability of older people and other individuals who reside in long-term care, creating an urgent need for evidence-based policy that can adequately protect these community members. At the request of Australian Government policymakers, Dr Garang Dut 2017 Roth/Segal John Monash Harvard Scholar has co-authored an academic publication.
Free ENDO art workshop
Join Jessica Coldrey, 2021 Victorian Government John Monash Scholar for creative endometriosis pain visualisation workshops this September the 13th. After her recent endometriosis diagnosis she was inspired to collaborate with Australia’s peak Endo education body, QENDO. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to also participate in a forum designed to help medical professionals and interested community members learn more about Endo symptoms.
