Stephen holds degrees in law and international business from Bond University, a Master of International Affairs from the ANU and a Master of Laws from Columbia Law School. Stephen is a career diplomat and currently serves as First Secretary at the Australian High Commission in London, where he covers Brexit and Australia’s economic relationship with the UK. Since joining the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2009 he has served as a trade negotiator and international lawyer in Geneva, New York and Canberra. Stephen has also held appointments as Associate to Justice John Dowsett AM QC at the Federal Court of Australia, Congressional Fellow to US Senator Bob Casey and visiting fellowships at Georgetown University Law Center and Columbia Law School. His studies at Columbia were supported by the Susan & Isaac Wakil Foundation John Monash Scholarship and focused on how the 4th industrial revolution and state capitalism are reshaping the global trade and investment landscape.
